The Frenchman Joseph-Marie Jacquard invented in 1805 a weaving machine with the help of which he could weave large patterns. The warp threads of the looms could be moved freely with the help of punched cards, which was a revolution over the conventional weaving machines. In addition, Joseph-Marie Jacquard was able to improve the loom by using a punch card controller that could weave the same pattern indefinitely.
